Identifying The Malay’s Traditional Musical Instruments using Acoustic Signal
Within Malaysia, one of the oldest Malay’s art heritage is traditional music with accompanying instruments where knowledge is passed down from one generation to another. These days, they still appear as a medium of communication and entertainment by supplementing the performing arts in the local community (Kechot 2013). Henceforth, the existence of the musical instruments symbolised proof of the old local’s wisdom and understanding of social needs. The common ones are cak lempong, gambus, gendang, gong, kompang, seruling (flute), rebab and rebana. They produced vast acoustic diversities with varying tones, melody and rhythms. Alternatively, the sound can be converted and observed in the time series and frequency domain (Darji 2017). […]
Structural Vibration Analysis and Validation
Most structures are subjected to vibrations caused by dynamic loads due to machines, vehicles, wind, earthquake, sea waves or tsunami. Very commonly, the vibrations need to be looked into either because the vibrations cause catastrophic loss to lives or properties or because the structures have to comply with standard or test specifications. Whatever the reasons are, the structural response needs to be quantified somehow so that its implication on factors such as safety and performance can be evaluated. Experimental and analytical approaches are used for investigating the structural response. Very often, experimental modal analysis (EMA), operational modal analysis (OMA) and the finite element method (FEM) are widely adopted for the […]
Acoustical Comfort Perceptions at Eatery Places in Malaysia
Background noises not only affect customers’ behaviour, satisfaction and perception towards acoustic comfort in the restaurant but also customers’ willingness to spend money and time in restaurant Eatery places are where the business of exchanging prepared food and drinks with money took place. The typologies of the eatery places are varying from a high end fine dining to family style, casual dining, inexpensive cafeterias and fast food range. These eatery places’ acoustical environments can influence the diner to return to the same eatery places as he or she enjoyed and satisfied with the dining experiences. Background noises not only affect customers’ behaviour, satisfaction and perception towards acoustic comfort in the […]
